in ten years from now he claims to have the ability to replicate the human nueral pathways and transfer consciousness.
I doubt that he can transfer consciousness into a machine. I believe that with proper architecture and sufficient density that a machine may host consciousness, but not create it, or have it transfered into it by Humans.
So who is this guy? Where may one view his research? Read his papers, etc. Sounds interesting. Thanks.
I am very interested in this subject. In my teens, in the mid 1960s I replicated the Bell Labs, 4 transistor artificial neuron-circuit, and I made around 1000 of the circuits on perf-cards, whereby I wired them using banna-jacks, where I experimented replicating the central nervous system of a cut-worm. I had very limited resources, using only surplus components from a local military surplus yard where I worked in trade for parts.
There are numerous teams around who are replicating the neuro structures of various invertebrates. In fact I gave a MUFON lecture about the CalTech team who were replicating the frontal-cortex, back in ?1997? or ?1998? They were collaborating with the University of Chicago team who were replicating the optical-cortex. Different teams are doing different portions.
At this juncture, I believe that the entire Human neuro-structure has already been duplicated, but it is classified. The last I heard about the subject in the public domain, was the Texas Instruments announcement of their new very large scale integrated artificial neuron chip series. This announcement was sometime around 1995 and about 3 months later, all subsequent information pertaining to that announcement and chipset disappeared from engineering veiw. The chipset consisted of 16,384 neuro-slices whose interconnects were CPLD programmable, and they had a 1024 x 16,384 demo box which exhibited artificial consciousness behaviors.
However, I know psycho-cybertneticist who has demonstrated a robot that exhibits telepathic response among other conscious behaviors. His gadget, models the wavelette-transforms of the brain. Its entirely enclosed in a show-box sized enclosure, and is powered by a 9Vdc smoke-detector battery, circuit is all CMOS of course. There is no digital logic in it, it does not contain any computers micro, macro or wireless or otherwise.
I interviewed this scientist a few years ago, I asked him, "why is it that your quantum-computer is so small yet exhibits consciousness? When all the large universities are constructing huge systems to replicate the tiny neuro-structures of invertebrates (an huge 220VAC powerlines to feed it)?", He said, "They want to understand how it all works, while for myself, I know how consciousness works at the oscillon level...brain-waves, I just want to model consciousness, not the plumbing." He was invited to the InterNational Robotics Consortium, which is hosted each each year by the IEEE Association to give a lecture regarding his design approach and then he fired up his AI robot and demonstrated it on stage. He recieved a standup ovation for his demo. I met him through my association in the SETI-L back when I belonged to the SETI Institute.
