Questions & Answers with Erik Bard
Chief Scientist at Skinwalker Ranch

How is their internet delivered, is it from a wireless ISP that shoots a wireless link to them from a tower somewhere?  Our work on the ranch has used both wireless and wired connections to the internet and between network equipment.  Wireless connections have proven unreliable.

How are all the sensors/cameras/etc. on the property connected back to command center. Are their fiber optic lines run underground, do they have wireless point to point links, a WiFi mesh network, etc. If so, do they use 5Ghz. I am not comfortable discussing current infrastructure in any detail.  In the past, sensors and cameras on the property have been connected both wirelessly and by coax or Ethernet.  Wireless connections, including the use of an enterprise-level mesh network have proven less reliable than hoped.

Have you done a battery runtime test on the laser pointer, so you know what to expect for continuous runtime before it dies.

Perfect question.  TLDR: no.

1. I was not personally involved in the planning or set-up of the laser-pointer activity, which seems to have produced some unexpected results, per Travis and the others.  And, no, I did not witness any prior testing of the pointer or of its battery.  That doesn't mean that it wasn't done.  I defer to Travis and/or Jim on the question.

2. To follow-up more completely, I did not participate in or witness the characterization of the wavelength, polarization, power consumption, output power, beam profile or stability of the laser; and I did not participate in or witness characterization of the battery capacity or run time prior to the experiment. I seem to recall and would otherwise assume it was an 18650 Lithium battery, but I don't know that to be the case. One of my previous career engagements (of about three years during grad school) was in the battery charger, test and power-management industry. I set up and managed a test lab for that sort of thing.  This experience has and will probably come into play on the ranch, but it was not brought to bear on the laser exercise.

3. I didn't receive the laser or the battery afterwards for testing.  It wasn't purchased under my budget, but I should probably have been more proactive, even insistent.  It was a long night.

Let me speak to something that may be important, out of my respect for this question and where I sense it comes from: In work engagements on and off of the ranch, I generally do characterize tools and instruments extensively, before I press them into service and, of course, before I begin sharing any results that they produce.  In this and other contexts, I've created custom instruments and software and tested them for months, before making any claims concerning what they measure.  I have to do that. Here, in service to an outdoor experiment devised by Travis and/or Jim for sharing with an audience, I do not know whether that was attempted beforehand.  It may have been done.  Or it may have been overlooked. One could be forgiven for expecting a laser pointer with a fully-charged battery to remain operational for the duration of a planned, brief experiment; but, yes, prior testing is a good idea. In all fairness, that requirement could be extended to include every flashlight, walkie-talkie, wristwatch, cellphone, etc., to say nothing of the documentary equipment, drones, etc. So...

I think the situation caught us a little off guard.  The loss of power within a few seconds (no kidding) of our arrival, when my own boots reached the point where the light struck the mesa may have been purely coincidental; it may have been premature but with a perfectly mundane explanation; or it *may* have signaled something for which the ranch is infamous. I have to keep reminding myself:  Correlation is not causation.  But... the timing of the result was a real head-scratcher.  Such is work at this crazy place...

They said there's been sightings of Bigfoot but they never mention it in any of the shows or documentaries.  I have read this as well. No, I have not  seen anything like a Bigfoot on the property. I have heard of towering dark figures being glimpsed that may be similar in some respects to a Bigfoot.  The journalist, news anchor, author and radio host, George Knapp, the artist and filmmaker, Jeremy Kenyon Lockyer Corbell, and the singer-songwriter and entertainer, Robbie Williams, have spoken publicly about such an occurrence during one visit to the ranch.  Not "Bigfoot" but a large, dark apparition.  I was present to greet them for their visit and to review some data; but I was not present for what they reported, later-on that evening.  What they reported was described as quite jarring to security personnel who accompanied them.   In the book, Hunt for the Skinwalker, we also read of a dark figure perceived to be passing through what is regarded by some as a portal on the property. I've never seen such a thing.  As part of my assignment since 2016, I have sought explanations for the large, dark apparitions, some of which are rooted in the subjective experience of the observer. I have sought and shared plausible, external, physical causes for that experience, to which, maybe, none of us are immune.  I don't yet have what I consider to be a definitive explanation.

Why do cameras work without the problems of other electrical things? This is another great question.  It gets right to the heart of what the hell is going on.  The unusual things that happen at the ranch  the anomalies  don't happen all the time.  They are intermittent.  We call them, transient' and even episodic, meaning that they won't happen for weeks or months but sometimes occur, all the sudden, in rapid succession.  Most of the time, camera equipment works just fine. If it weren't so, there could be no surveillance, much less a documentary series.  At certain times, though, devices malfunction in some very odd ways and with peculiar timing.  Data are sometimes lost.  Some equipment has been physically damaged or permanently ruined.  My chief interest as an investigator is found in what physically causes equipment malfunctions, when they happen.  It is natural - even obvious - to suspect something electromagnetic; and, yes, we do have support for that, but not a clear, assignable origin for the disturbance.

What has the Government said you guys can't show or say?  The question is kind of paradoxical.  Let me respond with some questions of my own:  If I were to reply that the Government had *not* forbidden us to say or to show something, would you trust that answer?  Could you?  If, on the other hand, I were to say that the Government had actually told me not to speak of some specific thing, and if I had naturally agreed to comply but were then to break my promise and to reveal whatever that is¦ would you be able to trust me? Could you?  And here's a third option: If I were to decline to answer the question at all, where would that take your thoughts about the whole subject or about the person attempting to answer you now? It seems, no matter how I respond to a question like this, the outcome could be the same.  We are left to select the lesser of three or more evils.  The least-evil thing I can choose in this case, then, is to tell the plain truth and to count on you to receive my answer, with neither belief nor but keeping it for consideration. So that's what I'll do: I have never personally been advised, cautioned or warned by the Government not to reveal something about the ranch.

One more thing... Is it possible for us to discover something  on our own at the ranch and to resist the impulse to reveal it right away?  Yes.  Failure to at least acknowledge the possibility of that scenario would, as far as I'm concerned, disqualify any person from the work.

There have been sightings of a shape shift wolf near the ranch. Have you or any of the team seen anything like that?

I don't know. I don't think so.

And I say it exactly like that deliberately.  I think I have to.  You see, given the *very name* by which we have referred to them here, I don't think anyone can - even in principle! - EVER be sure whether he or she is looking at a "shape shift" wolf (or any other creature) or just the natural form of the same critter.  Not unless the "shape shifting" entities have some kind of special visual signature to differentiate them from their natural counterparts; or... not unless we actually witness the "shifting" process, as it takes place. Now, that would be a hell of a thing to document.

So, would you agree with what I said about the "shape shift" entities?

Now,  while there have been several instances in the past of ranch personnel sensing that they are being watched and even followed by someone or something, and while people have reported hearing unintelligible speech or very strange, unfamiliar, "primitive" bird-like sounds, and while there have, in fact, been unexpected and suspicious animal sightings, I have not heard from ranch team members about any shape-shifters. Not since 2016.

On the other hand, I have personally reviewed a lot of photographic and video evidence and have discovered that it is not the shifting of what has been captured but the shifting in our perception of it that draws our attention.

So, let me pose a sincere question:  What would interest or concern you more?  A "wolf" that shifts between  forms?  Or something that has the power to reach inside your mind and shift your perceptions, perhaps as to whether there was ever a "wolf" to be seen at all?

They said the bigger guy saw red eyes in the dark But that all for people there now.
Jim Morse has described two especially noteworthy experiences to me, one of which involved the appearance of red eyes with no clearly defied bodily form to go with them.

I have known Jim for several years.  He has never been anything but sober in my presence.  He is open-minded and what you might describe as "spiritual" but not "religious" or dogmatic.  He is as sincere a witness as one could hope to meet. The only question I can raise concerning his experiences is not *whether* they took place, but what physical mechanism, if any, might account for those experiences.

I won't rehearse the second event here.  He can speak to that, if he chooses.  But I will say that it prompts me to ask, could we be dealing with low-frequency acoustic or EM effects on the observer - magnetophosphenes, for example?  I think it's possible.

Have you seen the show called Alien Highway? They did a episode on Skinwalker Ranch. They caught a pretty good video of a shape shift wolf.
I don't recall seeing it, if I did.

Where is the Money Pit? It is where the Money Mountain used to be.

Can you please allow us to have Livestream like they did in March till April ....and in episode 4 they shot rocket in the sky why not use live satellite.
The decision to host a public live stream is not my call.  It may surprise some to learn that I have advocated for live streaming since 2017 as a means of distributing the task that has been exclusively mine since the first camera system was deployed. Naturally, I was excited to set-up and to personally run the live stream in late March to test the idea; and I am hopeful that we will arrange to do so again.

As for satellites, of course they traverse the sky over the property routinely, though not necessarily with the same purposes that have motivated Travis' interest in using model rocketry as a way to conduct brief, low-altitude measurements to explore the possible presence of an unusual effect in the sky, just above the ranch.
